Post Operative Care

If you have recently undergone surgery, you will want to get back to full fitness as soon as possible.

The post operative care process here, is designed to achieve the following, FAST.

The Four Step-Treatment Process that we use here is perfectly set up for treating surgical wounds.

  • Immediate reduction in the subconscious fight and flight response that we all have to surgical trauma

  • Reduction in inflammation around the surgical site using photoboimodulation red light, laser therapy

  • Desensitisation of surgical site and scars

  • Increasing range of movement in joints affected or areas restricted, following surgery

  • Strengthening movement patterns so that areas that have needed surgery, can bounce back stronger than before

FAQs

How soon after my operation can I receive treatment?

Depending on the exact nature of your operation, most aftercare treatment can start within a few days of surgery. This can take the form of photobiomodulation (laser) therapy which will aid with the reduction of swelling and inflammation around the surgical site whilst also helping to speed up healing and recovery times.

How long will it take for my wounds to heal?

Nearly all damaged tissue in the body will be fully repaired within 3-6 months. This gives you a good amount of time to work with the healing process to help maximise results following on from surgery.

I have been given some exercises from the hospital to do at home. Should I continue doing them whilst receiving treatment?

Generally the answer to this question is yes as some form of exercise or movement can be incredibly beneficial for your recovery. But we will always discuss your specific needs and if there are areas of specific sensitivity or pain, I may recommend a slight adjustment.
